Today, we unveiled a new billboard here in Cape Town with a message that every South African deserves to hear. And the message comes from President Cyril Ramaphosa himself.
Speaking to thousands of ANC councillors last year, President Ramaphosa made a remarkable admission:
“Those municipalities that do best are not ANC-controlled municipalities … they are often DA-controlled municipalities.”
He even encouraged ANC councillors to visit Cape Town and Stellenbosch to learn how the DA gets things done.
I agree with the President.
And I thank him for that clear endorsement of DA governance, and for acknowledging what millions of South Africans already know from their own lived experience: where the DA governs, things work better.
The good governance that President Ramaphosa recognises in DA municipalities should not be the exception in South Africa. It should be the rule.
Every South African deserves a municipality that delivers clean water, fixes potholes, collects refuse, keeps public spaces safe and spends public money on the people it is meant to serve.
Every South African deserves to live in a town or city where businesses can grow, investment can flow and jobs can be created.
And every South African deserves a government that works for them, regardless of who they are or where they live.
That is not an impossible dream. We are already doing it.
Of course, there is more work to do in every municipality we govern. But our record shows what is possible when capable people put residents first.
Now it is time to bring that same hope and progress to millions more South Africans.
Don’t just hope for change. Vote for change. Because South Africa can work. For everyone.
