The Democratic Alliance in KZN is currently taking legal advice to approach a competent court on an urgent basis for a violation of the Electoral Act by a senior Leader of the MK Party in Durban.
During the MKP election manifesto launch in Durban yesterday, Pastor Khanyisani Mthenjwa, (whose online profile claims to be the public relations officer of the MKP), is seen in a video where he clearly threatens DA voters with disconnection of their electricity and water if the MKP is elected into government in eThekwini.
This threat is a clear violation of the Electoral Act, the Code of Conduct as well as the non-discrimination provisions of the Constitution.
No political party or member of a party may threaten or intimidate voters in an election, and the consequences for such conduct could result in severe action being taken against such party.
This kind of conduct should not be tolerated, and our courts and the IEC must take the strongest possible action against irresponsible and unacceptable conduct by political parties and their members.
The comments by Pastor Mthenjwa are an indication of what voters can really expect from the MK should it take government in Durban.
For more than 30 years communities have suffered without water and electricity because of the ANC failures and now the MK threatens to worsen the situation. This is why the DA has been warning endlessly that voters must do everything in their power to keep the MK Party out of power in eThekwini and KwaZulu-Natal.
We call on every voter in Durban to get behind the DA in this election to prevent a MK government in eThekwini and elsewhere. Together we can prevent the chaos and violence that is very likely to follow.
The continued access to basic services such as water for all persons now depends on us standing together against the MK Party.
