  • DA-run municipalities outperform the rest
  • Cape Town remains best-run metro in SA
  • Where the DA governs, residents benefit

A majority of municipalities in South Africa are plagued with financial calamity, because they are badly governed. But DA-run municipalities continue to set the standard for service delivery and protecting taxpayer money from corruption.

The latest Ratings Afrika Municipal Financial Sustainability Index (MFSI) reports what Western Cape residents experience daily: where the DA governs, communities benefit from responsible financial management and consistent service delivery.

The City of Cape Town stands head and shoulders above any other metro in South Africa and is highly financially sustainable. Cape Town’s overall index score of 71 is 35 points higher than the average score of 36 for the other metros.

The five best-performing local municipalities in South Africa are Drakenstein, Hessequa, Overstrand, Saldanha Bay and Swartland – all DA-run governments in the Western Cape.

But, this report goes beyond words on paper and rankings, because it shows that DA-run governments maintain roads, deliver reliable water services, provide consistent refuse collection, invest in infrastructure and facilitate environments where businesses and investors can create employment. That is delivery in action.

There is always more to do, but with sound, responsible, accountable DA governments, towns and cities improve.

The DA governs for people – for quality of life, for economic growth, for job-creation. We govern to make life better for residents, not for ourselves.

The DA will always choose good governance over chaos, service delivery over politics, and the interests of residents over the fake comfort of unreliable coalition partners with nefarious objectives.

Where the DA gets to govern, and lead a DA majority government, it is residents that benefit.

Keeping up this delivery is a choice on the ballot paper in the November Election, which residents get to vote for.
